Hotdog — Tyler & Patrick

our story

Tyler at Spring Lounge the night she met Patrick

Tyler talking with Patrick for the first time.

It started the way the best New York City stories do — unexpectedly, and all at once. On the night of October 19th, 2024, Tyler headed to Spring Lounge in SoHo with a couple of friends, not knowing that a few barstools away, Patrick had done exactly the same. It was Tyler’s best friend Anna — now her Maid of Honor — who called Patrick over to say hello. A small, ordinary moment that would change everything. What was meant to be a quick introduction turned into a conversation that neither of them wanted to end. They talked all night, easy and electric, the kind of connection that makes you forget where you are.

Then, against all odds in the middle of Manhattan, they looked up and saw shooting stars streak across the city sky. In a place where the light never quite goes dark enough to see the stars, the universe made an exception. Some signs you cannot ignore. Some nights, you just know.

The Place

Under the Shark

Spring Lounge is a hundred-year-old corner tavern at Spring and Mulberry that nobody downtown actually calls Spring Lounge. To everyone who knows it, it is the Shark Bar — for the life-size sharks that have hung over the room longer than either of us has been alive.

They were mounted on that wall the night a quick hello turned into a whole life. We still go back, order the same thing, and stand more or less in the same spot. Some places you visit. This one is ours.

The Bottle That Was Waiting

Years before we ever met, we each spent a semester studying abroad in Rome — Patrick in 2014, Tyler in 2016. Different years, the same ancient streets. We both fell in love with Italy without knowing the other existed.

Patrick’s program asked him to find a way to live inside the culture rather than just study it. He found it at Tony’s — a small, family-run restaurant tucked into the Roman cobblestones. After getting to know Tony, he asked whether he might come work alongside Tony and his family after his Wednesday classes. He spent the rest of that semester there every Wednesday night, learning Italian the way you actually learn it: over other people’s dinners.

Two years later, Tyler and her friends made the very same place their standing Wednesday night dinner. The same room, the same family, the same corner of Rome — the same night of the week, two years apart. Neither of us had any idea.

When Patrick left Rome, he came home with a bottle of wine from Tony’s. He kept it safe for thirteen years, knowing he would open it one day with the woman he was meant to marry. He just had to find her first. On June 5th, 2027, that bottle finally meets its moment — opened with Tyler, on the greatest day of their lives, exactly as it was always meant to be.

travel

We are so grateful to everyone traveling near and far to be with us on our wedding day. Whether you are coming from a few blocks away or a few time zones, it means the world that you are making the trip.

Tell us where you are starting from and we will map out the easiest way to get here.

Try “Pittsburgh, PA” · “Boston” · “Camp Hill” · or type any street address

The Three Airports

All three work. They are not equally convenient to the Financial District.

EWR
Newark Liberty
~15 miles · New Jersey

Our pick for transit. AirTrain to Newark Penn Station, then the PATH train straight to World Trade Center — an eight-minute walk from Cipriani. Roughly an hour door to door without ever sitting in traffic.

JFK
John F. Kennedy
~16 miles · Queens

The most international options. AirTrain to Jamaica, then the LIRR into the city, or the E train if you are not in a hurry. By car, budget 45–75 minutes depending on when you land.

LGA
LaGuardia
~10 miles · Queens

Closest on a map, but there is no train to the terminal — it is a car or the Q70 bus to the subway. Newly rebuilt and pleasant. Best if you are landing outside rush hour.

Arriving by Rail

Penn Station & Moynihan Train Hall

Amtrak · NJ Transit · LIRR Take the 1, 2, or 3 downtown to Wall Street, or the A or C to Fulton Street. About 20 minutes to the Financial District.

Grand Central Terminal

Metro-North · LIRR Take the 4 or 5 downtown to Wall Street. About 20 minutes, and the most pleasant station in the city to arrive into.

World Trade Center

PATH from New Jersey The best-kept secret. From Hoboken, Jersey City, or Newark, the PATH drops you a short walk from both the church and the reception.

Once you’re here, you probably won’t need a car. The church, the reception, and every hotel in our block are within walking distance of one another. Times above are typical and worth padding for a June weekend.
